Transition to Teaching
Minimize

The Transition to Teaching program focuses on recruitment, mentoring activities, and incentives to attract mid-career professionals, paraprofessionals, and recent graduates from colleges of arts and sciences to fill vacancies in critical shortage areas in high need schools. The program funds participation in alternative certification programs to help candidates become highly qualified teachers.

Eligibility:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Eligible for a temporary certificate
  • Paraprofessional with 60 or more hours of transferable college credit
  • Interested in teaching a critical shortage area
  • Interested in teaching in a high needs school

The Florida Department of Education partners with seven districts to recruit, train, and support teacher candidates. Through this grant, districts can provide these candidates with teacher training based on the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices, financial incentives for teaching in high need schools, and mentoring support from high performing teachers. See the boxes at the left for more information on and links to our partnering districts.
